Hills of Hems
As one of the founders of Hills of hems, Engelien enjoys creating her own handwriting. It has always been her dream to start her own label in kitchen linen, using sustainable materials, preferably produced locally. The feeling of the little label is fresh, happy and crispy. Collaborating with social workplaces, where less fortunate people make beautiful products, is amongst one of the greatest joy for her. The label is growing slowly, because quality and fair production are the main pillars. Next to all the textiles, Engelien also creates handmade greeting cards, with beautiful artworks for Christmas or any other occasion.
Laura Ashley
For several years Engelien has been designing tableware and everything related to the table for Laura Ashley. She has beautifully translated the floral and natural character of the designs into some iconic ranges of tableware collectables that are sold all over the globe. One of the latest ranges made by her, is called Hedingham Collectables, and unlike all the other ranges, this one is not on porcelain but pottery used as a base for an extra country feel. In addition to all the tableware, she has also developed kitchen linen combining all kinds of lovely and cheerful Laura Ashley prints.

POTTERY & OTHER
Engelien loves ceramics, such as bowls, dishes and lamps. Working with clay gives her a very relaxed feeling, taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the day. She has just started making her own ceramics to better translate technical aspects of tableware as well. She gets inspiration from nature; she sometimes wanders for hours in the woods or on the heath looking for inspiration. By slowing down, she says: ‘There is so much more to see, if you allow yourself the time to slow down and observe. Especially at the transition from summer to autumn, my favourite time of year. The silence that occurs then also allows myself to rewind. I enjoy that immensely!' Besides pottery, Engelien loves to draw and paint whatever she likes, as well as decorating her home. The beautiful items are labelled under Engel.
MOXXA SOCKS
Together with two partners, Engelien runs another small highly functional label, called MOXXA. The socks of their brand are intrinsically, permanently anti-bacterial, based on the Artemisia plant. The yarn from which the sock is made, is partly made of Artemisia, so the antibacterial effect remains present after washing. Very important is the social aspect with this label, the workers who make the socks receive the seeds of the plant from the manufacturer, with the owner buying back the yield after harvesting. In addition, for every 5 pairs of socks sold, Engelien and her companions donate one pair, specially, thickly knitted socks with the same properties to the Salvation Army, because everybody needs healthy feet. This completes the circle and they contribute a tiny bit to create a better world.
